Born
12 October 1938 Idaho
He's been on no
less than 22 magazine covers and was the first Mr.Olympia. Larry Scott can still
demand respect even today with those mighty arms and awesome physique but he was
once a small and scrawny kid.
By chance he came
across a copy of a Weider muscle magazine and was awe-struck by the men he saw
in them ho looked like Greek gods to the young Larry. He was especially struck
by the arms of George Paine. From that moment on he was hooked and first , not
having a set of weights, did triceps extensions with an old truck axle.
Things progressed
from there and in 1958 Larry moved to Los Angeles and just a year later he won
the 1959 Mr. Idaho
competition. After a few setbacks placing second in some competition in 1962
Larry was crowned Mr. America, a year later he won the medium class of the
Mr.Universe title but lost the overall title to Harold Poole. However nothing
could stop Larry's determination to win the title and the next year 1963 he won
the Mr.Universe title convincingly.
In 1965 , 18
September, Weider debuted the holy Grail of bodybuilding Competitions The
Mr.Olympia competition. Larry Scott blew away the competition which included
Harold Poole and Earl Maynard to win the first Mr.Olympia and prove to all that
he was the best bodybuilder in the world at that time. Larry even beat the
mighty Sergio Oliva when he successfully defended his title the next year. After
winning for a second time Larry Scott retired from competitive Bodybuilding to
return once more in 1979 , and the age of 40 to compete in he Diamond Cup
competition in Vancouver and placed 9th.
Even today Larry
is in top shape and truly deserves his place as one of the true legends of
Bodybuilding.
