Supplements - Why pay more for less?
By Sportlab Europe Director

In this ever-changing world of fitness we live in there’s one thing you can be sure of and that’s there is always something new coming on the market claiming to be the latest scientific backed product to help you achieve the body of your dreams and to prove it there’s a picture of a guy who four weeks before who looked like he could win first place at mr pipe cleaner 2003 but after using this miracle product for only for weeks he’s 4 stone heavier and ripped to shreds now this might be slightly exaggerated but if you open any bodybuilding magazine you will see dozens of these example’s selling you everything from liquid Creatine to slimming bars so why would these ads be there if they were not true?

Simple really, to separate you from your cash just because some bodybuilder claims something works does that mean all common sense goes out the window I will give you examples of the way people con you and explain how. Remember I own a supplement brand (SPORTLAB EUROPE) and it would have been easy for me to jump on that overloaded band wagon and bring out similar products but I believe in honesty and giving value for money  so while your reading the list just think for a second how much money you have already wasted on these products and did they do what they said they would?

Nutrition bars

First up we have nutrition bars these come in many different sizes and shapes from slimming bars , protein bars ,Creatine bars and so on, the first problem is most of these bars have been cooked so the protein content or Creatine content would be next to useless as heat destroys them , the next problem we face is the fact that most of them are covered in chocolate now you wouldn’t add a mars bar to your diet but just because a bar has slimming written on the label it makes it ok if you only want the bar because its taste then great there are a lot of good tasting bars out there although I still prefer a mars but if you want it for its ingredients think before you throw your money away.

Flapjacks

These are becoming very popular with the gyms of late again flapjacks come in many forms from whey protein flapjacks to slimming flapjacks I contacted a company who made flapjacks to ask them about there cooking techniques the guy was real honest with me he told me that if I ever saw a flap jack being made I would never eat them this was due to the large amounts of sugar, margarine, butter and jam added to them again they are cooked at high temperatures  so any whey protein that was added would be useless and as for having a slimmers flapjack that’s just crazy look on the label for the ingredients its law to list them in order of quantity so the more ingredients in the bar the higher on the list it goes most flapjack labels will read like this sugar, oats, margarine, emulsifiers and so on at the end of the label if your lucky  it might say whey protein my advice would be keep away from them if you want this much crap buy yourself a bag of donuts they taste better.

Creatine delivery systems

I have already covered this on my website but for the benefits of this article I will do so again. Creatine needs a simple carb delivery system this has been proven it creates an insulin spike in your body which gets the Creatine into the muscle were its needed the problem here is when companies get greedy one of the main things they do is use a lot more of the simple carb( cheap ingredients) and a lot less of the Creatine (expensive ingredients) so you could be paying your £30-£55 out for a tub of sugar they also try to out do each other by claiming you will get 10 grams of Creatine per serving that would be great if your body could use it but as your body would only use about 2-3 grams the rest is toilet food think how well your toilet is eating. My advice here would be use a quality pure monohydrate and add the simple carb yourself this way you know exactly what your getting.
